Act as the team leader in developing, implementing and assessing Information Literacy, Reference and Reader’s Advisory programs and services in both print and electronic environments in an assigned discipline area. The position will be responsible for collection management and liaison activities within the subject discipline. The position will participate in developing and delivering outreach activities to Qatar based organizations and business to support the information, research, learning and recreational reading needs of Qatar.
Key Result Areas:
Coordinate and facilitate the activities of the assigned Information Services team within a subject discipline (Humanities,Ø Social Sciences, Science, or Fine Arts) to effectively provide Information Literacy, Research, Reference, Reader’s Advisory and Collection Management Services.
Continuously explore new applications of pedagogy and technology in order to design and deliver active learning,Ø critical thinking and learner collaboration throughout public services for target groups (university, college, grade level students and general public).
Provide Information Literacy learning opportunities throughØ class and public lectures.
ProvideØ Reference and Reader’s Advisory services through regular shifts at the Reference Desk, Learning Commons, eReference (text, email and chat), Gulf Collection, Heritage Collection, Roving and individual office consultations.
DevelopØ print and virtual resources to support teaching and learning activities and for self-directed learning opportunities (from print to vidcast).
Ø Provide general assistance with Academic Literacy and refer learners to the Peer Tutoring Center and Writing Center where appropriate.
Develop public programs such as ESL / EFL, author visits,Ø book clubs, public lectures etc. to enhance learning.
Develop displays in order to highlight and interpret the library’s collections and services.Ø
Ø Develop the library collection in an assigned subject area by searching for, identifying and evaluating and selecting relevant materials through the application of standard library collection development methodologies in conjunction with the Collection Development policy.
Liaison with user groups to determine needs and prioritiesØ
Participate in the ongoing development andØ operations of public services in areas such as the Learning Commons, Children’s Services, the Gulf Collection, web services etc.
Serve on designated committeesØ
Participate in outreach programs targeting Qatar based organizations to support the research, learning and recreational reading needs of QatarØ
Contributes to the profession by publishing,Ø presenting or participating in professional organizations
Keep abreast of developments, trends and issues in all areas of responsibilitiesØ
Ø Performs miscellaneous duties and conducts special projects as required
Skills
Ø Masters degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or foreign equivalent
Ø 3 years of progressively experience in Information Services with hands on experience in the development and delivery of Information Literacy programs.
Experience in the development and delivery of physical and virtualØ Reference Services
Team leadership and facilitation skills.Ø
Strong analytical skills with attention to detailØ
Strong presentation and facilitation skillsØ
Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills in both oral and written English. ArabicØ language skills will be an asset
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a teamØ
Flexible and versatile inØ performing challenging and changing responsibilities
Familiarity with Library /Ø Web 2.0 technologies as a user
